ANZU WYLIEI

Button 1- Anzu Wyliei was a large oviraptorosaur with a toothless beak and a large head crest. It was North America’s largest oviraptorosaur and the third largest in the world.

Button 2 - The Anzu Wyliei is named after the Mesopotamian demon which shares its same name. Due to its appearance and size, paleontologists have jokingly nicknamed the Anzu Wyliei,  “The Chicken From Hell”.

Button 3 - Looking at the skull in front of you, you may notice a bone surrounding the eye of the Anzu. This eye bone is called a sclerotic ring, a special bone that supports the eyeball. This is useful if the eye is particularly large or not spherical. It’s common among all groups of vertebrates except modern mammals and crocodiles.

Button 4 - Anzu Wyliei’s large crest on top of its head is made of paper thin bones and would have been quite fragile. This crest is believed to have been used to attract potential mates or possibly to identify other members of their same familial species.
