TOROSAURUS
Button 1 - Torosaurus was an herbivorous dinosaur which lived approximately 70 million years ago during the late cretaceous period. Torosaurus had a large skull that grew in excess of 8 feet long. Scientists are unsure of the frill’s exact purpose beyond protecting the neck of the dinosaur. Popular theories include that it could have been used to attract mates or as a way for members of the same species to recognize each other.
Button 2 - An ongoing debate among paleontologists is whether Torosaurus is a species by itself or whether it is merely a fully grown Triceratops. The “Toromorph Hypothesis” suggests that as Triceratops matured, the frill behind their neck expanded and thinned, eventually forming the two openings found in Torosaurus’ frill. This debate will likely continue until new evidence is discovered and confirmed.
