TRIISODON

Button 1 - This massive predatory mammal is called Triisodon, and he lived approximately 56 million years ago. He was one of the first large scale predatory mammals to appear in North America following the extinction of the dinosaurs, weighing approximately 120 pounds. Triisodon did not use his claws to hunt and neutralize prey like other mammals of the time, instead he had massive jaws and large pointed canine teeth to grab onto his prey and subdue them.

Button 2 - Before the asteroid event that wiped out dinosaurs from the planet, mammals rarely exceeded the size of rats, feeding on insects and plants. So how did these tiny mammals grow to these massive sizes, like Triisodon? Once the asteroid event occurred, most of the mammals’ natural predators no longer existed and the mammals' growth exploded. In just 10 million years around 4,000 species of mammals had evolved including the first whales, bats, rodents and primates.
